![]() It was very difficult to try to relax there because of this. In order to sit near the beach area, we were consistently approached to purchase food, drinks, massages, bracelets, and hair braiding. There would have been no relaxation by the pool area due to the activity and commotion (as one would expect). The free/included food and drinks are by the pool and main Dolphin restaurant. We were guided to the beach area and informed what was included and what cost extra (which was what we expected and planned for). The entry staff were very nice and helpful. We highly recommend this tour for families, and our best recommendation is to be sure to bring bug spray! Jose made a few more quick stops at the island's first Roman Catholic church and neighboring Mayan ruin and finally one more cenote which had an active current, so the water was crystal clear. (I mean you could swim in it, but it's not clear water.) Still, my kids loved seeing the bats and turtles and relished in the quiet and tranquility. Despite what you may have seen on YouTube videos, it's not really a swimming cenote. The beach across the street and the foliage behind the restaurant provided a beautiful backdrop.īy the time we arrived at Jade Caverns, it was close to closing time, so we had the area all to ourselves. Lunch was beef or chicken fajitas with rice and beans, which we all enjoyed. ![]() The tasting was enjoyable, and we happily brought home a bottle of Anejo as a souvenir.įrom there, Jose drove us to the other side of the island for a short stop to visit the tide pools and turtle nests before our lunch stop in San Martin. He encouraged our kids to roam the property to visit the goats, jump on a trampoline and swim in the pool, which they happily did. I know these stops get a bad rap, and we were skeptical as well, but the tour guide was very kind and friendly. Our visit started with Tequilla tasting at Tequiliera Reyes. (Suggestion to the operator, we didn't realize that "Marti" is a shop name, so we followed the instructions to go to the Go Excursions kiosk pictured in the email we received.) We did have a little confusion about the meeting point, so we had a bit of a late start, but Jose easily made up the time. Our ship's itinerary had to be changed due to Hurricane Idalia, and it was so easy to reschedule via the TripAdvisor website and email. My husband, two boys (ages 14 and 11) and I booked this for our August cruise. (We previously visited Playa Mia and swam with dolphins at Chakkanaab.) Thanks to our fabulous tour guide, Jose, we feel like our family finally know more about this gorgeous island and people.
